First brick Kazan mosque, one of the oldest mosques – Mardzhani mosque is situated on the bank of the Kaban lake. It is one of the most interesting monuments of Tatar religious architecture of XVIII-XIX centuries. Its construction gave birth to monumental religious architecture of traditional volume planning construction after 200 years of interval. Outstanding religious and public worker, historian, teacher and preacher Shigabutdin Mardzhani (1818-1889) was imam of the mosque in 1850-1889. Use of modern style features in the architecture of the mosque put it in one rank with other outstanding buildings of Kazan and Russian architecture.
