December, 22, 1906 is considered to be the date of birth of the theatre, as the first Tatar play was performed that very day. Centenary history of the theatre is the reflection of the whole Tatar theatre culture. Tatar professional theatre of the beginning of the century was performed by numerous troupes. In 1986 the theatre moved to new building, which resembles ship, sailing along Kaban lake. The theatre has two halls – large one (831 seats) and small (under the reconstruction). Each seat is radio-equipped for performing the translation to Russian and English languages. For its century history the theatre became one of the best national theatres in Russia. Today the troupe of the theatre numbers 50 actors. The theatre is headed by honored culture worker of the Republic of Tatarstan Shamil Zakirov, head director of the theatre is Farid Bikchantaev.
