Description

Opening date – 1938
The first play, which was performed in the theatre, is “Runaway” (Kachkyn) by N.Zhiganov. During its first years of existence the theatre performed only operas. In 1941 it was named opera and ballet theatre and in 1956 it was named after Tatar poet Mussa Jalil. Nearly 40 operas, ballets and musical comedies of the Tatar composers were performed here. Its repertoire includes the works of Russian and foreign composers. The construction of the theatre began in 1933 according to the project of architect N.Skvortsov. In 1948 I.Gaynutdinov worked out the facades and interiors in neoclassicism style. Along semicircular walls we can see monuments to great Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin and Tatar poet Gabdullah Tukay. In 1988 the theatre got the rank of academic. Director of the theatre is Raufal Mukhametzyanov, head conductor – Rinat Salavatov.
